Eamonn Holmes has been called on to apologise after he compared last night’s attack on the Manchester United bus to the Hillsborough disaster.
Speaking on Sky News this morning, the veteran news anchor was discussing the ugly scenes that marred West Ham’s final game at Upton Park when he attempted to liken it to the 1989 tragedy which cost the lives of 96 Liverpool supporters.
He said “This is going back to the 70s and to the 80s
“The type of thing you were seeing that was bad about Hillsborough, for instance.”
A fortnight ago, a verdict of unlawful killing was delivered by a jury at a new inquest into Hillsborough and viewers expressed their anger at his comments on social media.
Holmes has yet to respond to the social media backlash for this comments.
Did Eammon Holmes really just say West Ham fans violent behaviour was like the 80s and Hillsborough? @SkyNews #Hillsboroughfansvindicated

@EamonnHolmes Why after 27 years of proving it, have you just compared what happened at Hillsborough to hooliganism? pic.twitter.com/9P0PJD8HxJ
