Police have arrested 12 men following drugs raids on a series of homes in Merseyside and a boat in Liverpool Marina.
The joint operation between Merseyside Police and their counterparts from the Alicante area of Spain culminated in local officers seizing an estimated £9,000 worth of drug money and a number of arrests made in the Prescot and Whiston parts of the city in the early hours of the morning.
Merseyside Police noted that the men, who are all in their 60’s, were arrested as part of the joint investigation by the force’s Matrix Serious Organised Crime unit and Spanish police into the shipment of banned drugs from southern Spain into the UK.
Spanish officers in Alicante also arrested a further nine people during yesterday’s co-ordinated operation, uncovering two large-scale cannabis farms in the process.
On Merseyside, a 63-year-old from Prescot and two 68-year-olds from Whiston have been bailed pending further investigation.
Local police are asking anyone with any drugs-related information to contact their neighbourhood policing team or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
