Taxi driver wanted following New Year hit and run

Merseyside Police are appealing for information to trace a taxi driver that they want to speak to in connection with a New Years Eve hit and run incident.

The incident is said to have happened at around 6.45pm where there was a collision between a black cab and a pedestrian near to the junction of Utting Avenue and Ayrshire Road resulting in the pedestrian suffering a serious but non-life threatening head injury.

Inspector Kim Carter said: “Although the circumstances around the incident are slightly unclear, we want to bring justice to the victim who could be facing a long and uncertain recovery.

“It’s believed that a couple got into a taxi outside of The Lobster Pot in Liverpool’s city centre. They were driven to Utting Avenue, Norris Green were they got out and began walking along Ayreshire Road. It is here that the collision is believed to have occurred.

“Anyone passing who may have seen the incident or has any dash-cam footage they wish to share is urged to get in contact.

“We’d ideally like to track down the driver, who is described as Asian with a long beard driving a black cab with a large green sign on the side.
