Roberto Martinez endured another round of supporter confrontation during Everton’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Martinez faces renew pressure ahead of next week’s FA Cup final after continuing to preside over a dismal run of results as Blues manager, with the encounter against Ronald Koeman’s side set to condemn the club to their worst record of form on home soil in its 138-year history.
The former Wigan manager was met with banners in the stands calling for his departure for a second successive week, following last week’s draw with Watford, with one disgruntled Evertonian invading the Goodison Park pitch following Saido Maine’s poorly conceded equaliser.
After remonstrating with midfielder Leon Osman, the fan was led away as he shouted in Martinez’s direction as the under-fire Everton manager stood motionless in his technical area.
Speaking after the game, which was seen by the club’s new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Martinez attempted to downplay the furore.
He said: “We all understand the results at home haven’t been anywhere near what we expect.
“It’s understandable you get that frustration but after 10 months we have an opportunity to take advantage of being in the FA Cup semi-final.”
Martinez had been met with disenfranchised supporters earlier this week as he took in Everton’s under-21s game with Chelsea.
