Lime Street station to reopen ahead of schedule

Liverpool Lime Street station will reopen ahead of schedule after last week’s travel chaos.

Commuters faced severe disruption for several days after a trackside wall collapsed between the city centre gateway and Edge Hill station last Tuesday.

Regional trains were forced to terminate at other stations while people heading to London had to embark at Runcorn Station due to the inaccessibility issues.

But Network Rail, who operate Lime Street, have confirmed that it will be accessible for commuters again from Wednesday – 24 hours earlier than planned.

Engineers have worked round the clock to remove the rubble, which missed collision with a train by just seconds, from the line since last week.

Martin Frobisher, the firm’s London North Western route MD, said: “I am thrilled to be able to get customers moving again in and out of Liverpool’s main station.

“Our orange army has worked tirelessly since the incident occurred. We’re really proud of them.

“We’re grateful for the teamwork and support of the train companies, and for the patience of both passengers and neighbouring residents and businesses.”

Most services will be operating from Lime Street but rail customers are urged to check before they travel, at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
