Liverpool’s inaugural Student Icon crowned

A PhD student has been crowned as Liverpool’s inaugural Student Icon.

Teo Nagy was handpicked by accommodation provider IconInc, who were behind the initiative, to recognise inspirational students across the city.

The University of Liverpool student is currently pioneering a PhD project in glaciology research and working to tackle climate change.

Teo moved from his family in his native Slovakia to begin his undergraduate studies and has funded himself to travel across 39 countries.

As part of the award, he won a year’s tenanacy at the new luxury student accommodation hot spot The Ascent in the heart of the city centre.

He said: “I’m over the moon to have won Liverpool Student Icon 2017, not only because I get to live for a year in complete luxury, but also because I’m proud to be recognised for my hard work and passion for the environment.

“The modern interior and the amazing services and facilities available at The Ascent definitely make it the coolest place for students to live in Liverpool.

“I’m unbelievably excited to move in and I want to say a huge thank you to IconInc and everyone who voted for me.”

Naveen Ahmed, managing director of IconInc, said: “The standard of entries we received for this year’s Student Icon competition was phenomenal and it’s clear there’s a lot of talent in the student community.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to profile the inspirational young people who are driving change and making a difference here in Liverpool.

“The competition has given students across the city a voice to express what they’re proud of and share their life aspirations.

“We’d like to say a big well done to Teo for winning and hope he enjoys living at The Ascent.”
