KIND spreads festive cheer to Merseyside kids

KIND is preparing to deliver Christmas to thousands of children across Merseyside this weekend.

More than 1,300 hampers will be packaged up by the Liverpool-based charity on Saturday to deliver to disadvantaged kids and their families across the region.

The large festive food hampers contain all the staple foods such as beans, soup and tuna, but also include festive treats such as mince pies, chocolate and Christmas crackers.

All hampers contain a least a week’s worth of food and were made possible thanks to the kind donations of the people of Merseyside and beyond.

Charity bosses hope that the packages will help bring a smile to the faces of some of the region’s poorest families this Christmas.

As well as the hampers, KIND is also providing families with fantastic toy parcels which contain brand new toys, dolls and games as well as essential clothing to help them keep warm this winter.

Last year KIND helped over 7,500 children and families in Merseyside – the most it has ever assisted.

This year it is on target to beat this record and would like to help even more of the region’s most disadvantaged families if it is successful.

Its boost in donations is partially thanks to its new city centre pop-up shop on Williamson Street which is open six days a week in the run up to Christmas.

Stephen Yip, KIND’s founder and chief executive said: “For most of us Christmas is a magical time of year.

“But for many families across our community Christmas is a time of dread and unhappiness.

“We want to try and ensure that as many children and families in need in our community have a Christmas to remember and not one to forget.

“We rely on the kindness of the people of Merseyside to make sure no family goes without this Christmas, and as always the kind hearted nature of our community has shone through.

“We have been overwhelmed with the donations received so far and we’ll have our hands full this weekend with thousands of packages to pull together.”
