A bagpipe player pretending to collect money for a Hillsborough charity has been found guilty of fraud.
Long-standing busker Angus Carpenter posed as a collector for both Help for Heroes and ‘Justice for the 96’ on April 14, the eve of the 1989 disaster’s anniversary, this year .
The 62-year-old was found guilty of one count of fraud while he was cleared on a further two by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday afternoon.
Carpenter, of Woolton, was repeatedly warned by police about using props including a collection bucket covered in Hillsborough Justice Campaign stickers.
He had claimed that the red and blue ‘Justice’ banner was designed as a tribute to the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at the tragedy in Sheffield.
After being found guilty, Carpenter was bailed for sentencing on January 10.
