Five-year-old attacked by family dog in Norris Green

A five-year-old girl suffered a series of injuries after being attacked by a dog in Norris Green.

The pet was not a banned breed and belonged to a relative when the incident took place at a house in Wellesbourne Place at around 7pm on December 9.

Police have confirmed that the girl was taken to hospital with injuries to her head, neck and hand although they are not thought to be life threatening.

Family members attempted to restrain the dog and was later put down by a vet due to the extent of its injuries sustained during the incident.

Detectives later arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an out-of-control animal but he was later released pending a disposal decision.
