Alder Hey patients given Christmas flight to remember

Young patients from Alder Hey were given their very own Christmas experience courtesy of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The Speke terminal recently announced the hospital’s Children’s Charity as its official fundraising partner and is working on various initiatives over the next 12 months.

In line with that pledge, the Airport teamed up with several companies aligned to them to help put patients and their families in a festive mood last weekend.

Liverpool-based retailer Matalan very kindly donated a number of gifts as did Everton FC that were given to each child before boarding their flight.

Ryanair, one of the airport’s largest airline customers, provided one of its Boeing 737-800 planes over from Dublin to take families on a pleasure flight.

A Christmas grotto was created especially for the occasion in one of the airport’s hangars with a variety of entertainment provided for all the passengers.

The VIP guests were treated to a visit by Santa before boarding a special flight which took them out over the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man and back.

Local bus operator Arriva also helped out by taking visiting Ryanair employees and their families who travelled over from Dublin into the city centre for a Christmas day out in Liverpool, which included a visit to the DreamWorks Lights Lantern Experience at St George’s Hall.

LJLA aims to raise around £100,000 over the next 12 months for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity with various events planned including a world record wheel barrow pushing attempt to be held on the Airport runway in March next year.
