Shots fired at car in Mossley Hill

Police are investigating an incident in Mossley Hill during which shots were fired at a car.

Officers were called to Crawford Avenue shortly before 10pm on Wednesday to reports that loud bangs had been heard.

A search of the area was undertaken after a black Vauxhall Insignia was found with damage consistent with a firearm discharge and casings in the street.

Detectives from Merseyside Police enquired with local hospitals but found no one with gunshot injuries.

Chief Superintendent Ian Hassall said: “An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding this incident is underway.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in and around Crawford Avenue shortly before or after the incident to contact us, as any information they have could be vital to our inquiries.

“Thankfully nobody was injured but to use a firearm in the street is clearly incredibly reckless and we are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“The full circumstances are unclear at present and we are keeping an open mind as to the motive.”

Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are being conducted.

High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the public.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have information which could help them with their inquiries to contact the specialist Matrix team on 0800 230 0600, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
