Man arrested after West Kirkby hit-and-run leaves teen in critical condition

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man after a teenager was left in a critical condition following a hit-and-run in West Kirkby on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to Grange Road shortly after 7pm following reports that a small silver car had been involved in a collision with a 16-year-old boy.

The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics after sustaining serious head injuries before being taken to the Walton Centre for further treatment. He remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car that collided with the boy failed to stop at the scene and officers are carrying out enquiries to find them and the vehicle. It is believed to have left the scene travelling in the direction of Hoylake.

Grange Road is closed from its junction with Bridge Road to the junction with Orrysdale Road and at the junction with Dee Lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Merseyside Police have now confirmed that arrest of a 21 year-old man in connection with the incident.

The man, stuff from Hoylake, has been arrested for suspicion of failing to stop, causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drink driving.

It is understood that he has been taken into custody and will be questioned later today by detectives.

The vehicle involved, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, was located in Harrington Road and has been forensically recovered.
