Though not an expert, I would say it is fairly rare that a fully-grown adult would come out of a show consisting of two hours of teenage girls screaming, and say “I enjoyed that”.
I went to this show with a certain element of trepidation – my ear drums had just about recovered from the One Direction damage, however we are back to square one as 2,000 screaming youngsters filled the Liverpool Empire.
Although I had seen and heard of YouTube stars before, I wasn’t entirely sure how this would translate to a stage show. However I was completely won over and started to understand the appeal they have.
The main theme of the show is the new ‘Joe and Caspar on the road’ DVD which involves the boys travelling the USA doing all kinds of pranks, challenges/ and tricks- and of course being videoed as they did it.
For the ultimate Joe and Caspar fan, this show is a must. The informal chitchat on stage is fun to watch and they engage with the crowd really well. Theatregoers are treated to sneak peaks of their antics and even exclusive clips shown only to the audience of this tour.
The boys engage in various challenges on stage including Astronaut or Audience Member and my personal favourite ‘I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly’.
I won’t go in to too much detail to avoid spoiling the fun and perhaps it may be one of those ‘it was funny at the time’ moments.
What was most surprising is how engaging Joe and Caspar are. I went from very unsure to completely won over within the first 30 minutes and probably wasn’t the only fully grown adult in the same situation.
They are both really genuine with their fans too and kept them involved throughout the show. There were real crowd-pleasing moments, particularly when the boys play lifeguards as part of a challenge.
What they have here is something quite special; a genuine friendship that both adults and youngsters alike can totally get on board with.
And with fans like these, hopefully they have some ear plugs too!
