A host of Everton icons are set to be inducted into the Gwladys Street Hall of Fame.
The accolade will be restored in March, following an eight-year absence, and will see the inclusion of several of the Blues’ memorable former figures.
Over 7,000 votes were cast on supporter websites ToffeeWeb and NSNO, with 1980s legend Pat van den Hauwe taking the lion’s share of the vote.
A staple of Howard Kendall’s all-conquering side of the decade, the Wales international swept the board with over 70 per cent of nominees.
He was followed by ex-striker Kevin Campbell, who received 62 per cent, while Nigel Martyn and John Bailey were also inducted.
The unsuccessful names on the eight-man shortlist were Martin Dobson, Dave Thomas, FA Cup winner Joe Parkinson and recent departee Tony Hibbert.
Since its creation by Dr David France exactly 20 years ago, the Hall of Fame has proved to be a resounding success with Evertonians old and young.
“I wondered if the appetite for the Hall of Fame would still be there after such a long absence,” said Dr France.
“But the number of votes cast – and the number of tickets already sold for next year’s dinner shows that it is as voracious as ever.”
