Stoke City want Liverpool FC defender Mamadou Sakho on loan

Stoke City want to secure a loan deal for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.

Jurgen Klopp is considering allowing Sakho to spend a short-term spell away from Anfield in order to revive his career following a prolonged delay.

The France international’s return to action was largely hampered by the fallout from his failed drugs test, which was dismissed by UEFA last month.

An Achilles problem subsequently saw Sakho miss the start of the Reds’ season while he was also ejected from their tour of America for repeatedly breaching club rules.

And the Potters, who signed Joe Allen from Liverpool earlier this summer, are keen to secure the 26-year-old’s services to shore up their back line options.

Klopp remained cagey about Sakho’s immediate prospects in the wake of his side’s emphatic EFL Cup win over Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

He said: “Everybody who needs to be informed about this has been informed about this.

“There are no secrets with the important people, I would say.”
