Liverpool FC set to recoup £32M from Christian Benteke’s sale

Liverpool will recoup most of their £32 million outlay on Christian Benteke after agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace.

Negotiations to secure the Belgium international’s departure had dragged on but the Reds have now reached a compromise with the south London club.

Palace made numerous approaches for Benteke but their previous proposals were structured with add-ons which Anfield officials perceived as unrealistic.

Palace will pay an initial £27 million up front with potentially a further £5 million in future clauses set to increase the striker’s valuation.

It means that Liverpool will almost break even on last summer’s signing of the 25-year-old from Aston Villa, which culminated in an underwhelming campaign.

Benteke found himself largely surplus to requirement last season as Jurgen Klopp turned to Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino as Daniel Sturridge’s understudies.
