Liverpool Pride attracts record numbers in 2016 march

Organisers of Liverpool’s Pride festival are hailing this year’s festival a record-breaking success.

Around 25,000 people flocked to last weekend’s annual celebration of the city’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.

An estimated 5,000 people marched through the streets of Liverpool city centre as part of the festivities, set up in 2010 following the murder of Michael Causer.

Joan Burnett, a trustee of Liverpool Pride, said: “There was such a spirit of togetherness at the event and such an amazing atmosphere with people from every community coming out to celebrate at the festival.

“Everyone should remember ‘All You Need is Love’ and this weekend proved that.”
