Liverpool have confirmed Jeremy Jacquet’s shirt number after his summer arrival.
Jacquet completed a move to Anfield at the start of this month as his £60 million move from Rennes agreed in the January transfer window was officially ratified.
The Reds saw off competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea to sign the France under-21 international, who recently recovered from shoulder surgery.
Jacquet admitted that working alongside Ibrahima Konate was a key motivation in his decision to move to Merseyside but will now take the defender’s squad number.
Konate left Liverpool as a free agent when his previous deal expired on June 30 in order to sign for Real Madrid, where he will be reunited with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
His No.5 shirt was assigned to the 21-year-old on Thursday in a sign of the faith placed in the highly-rated centre-back ahead of Andoni Iraola’s debut campaign.
Jacquet will be the 12th player to wear the digit in the Premier League era, following the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Daniel Agger, Mark Wright and Milan Baros.
Liverpool are yet to announce any other squad number changes with summer signing Victor Munoz not expected to be confirmed until after the World Cup.
The Spain winger is currently preparing for Sunday’s final with reigning world champions Argentina and his new club teammate Alexis Mac Allister.
