A teenage boy has been arrested following an attack at Crosby Beach.
Police were called to the popular Liverpool seafront area at around 5.50pm on Monday (May 25) after reports of a disturbance close to the boating lake.
A 19-year-old woman was taken to hospital for assessment after suffering injuries to her head and arm the latter which is believed to have been from a bladed weapon.
Detectives detained a 16-year-old boy from Litherland several hours after the alleged assault and took him in for questioning. He currently remains in custody.
Merseyside Police were also called to ‘multiple reports of disturbances’ at various train stations across the local coast as huge crowds left the region’s beaches.
Detective Inspector Edward Barr said: “We understand the concern that such an incident will have caused to people visiting the beach yesterday.
“Although the victim sustained only minor injuries, this will have nevertheless been a distressing experience for her and any witnesses and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened as we investigate.
“We are committed to responding swiftly to any information we receive about the possession and use of weapons to assault or threaten people in our communities.
