Tommy Robinson rally slammed for YNWA use

A Liverpool MP has slammed the use of You’ll Never Walk Alone at Tommy Robinson rally.

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, staged a march in London under the banner of ‘Unite the Kingdom’ in London on Saturday (May 16).

The event which featured guest speeches from a number of prominent far-right agitators culminated in a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Yaxley-Lennon prefaced the performance by telling the estimated 60,000 crowd to prepare for a ‘battle of Britain’ as part of their ongoing campaign.

Labour’s West Derby MP Ian Byrne, who also co-founded Fans Supporting Foodbanks, condemned the Liverpool FC anthem being weaponised.

He said: “You’ll Never Walk Alone has been sung at funerals, memorials, moments of tragedy and moments of unity across the world.

“It’s a song about collective solidarity. So it’s karma that the worst ever version of YNWA took place at the worst ever place it has ever been sung.

“The whole premise of Yaxley-Lennon’s march is opposed to the very meaning of YNWA.

“Let’s never have a repeat, my soul cannot take it and nor can my ears.”
