New Everton manager Ronald Koeman will make his Goodison Park bow with a showdown against former foes Espanyol.
Barcelona’s cross-city rivals have been confirmed as the Blues’ final pre-season opponents in a friendly on Saturday, August 6 – just seven days before Tottenham travel to Merseyside.
Koeman faced off with Espanyol during his playing days at the Camp Nou and will again use his one-time adversary to prepare for the start of the new Premier League season.
The Dutchman previously encountered the Spanish club at the beginning of his final season in charge of Southampton, with the sides playing out a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s last August.
Espanyol are no strangers to Goodison, having provided the opposition for Everton legend Alex Young’s testimonial in 2001.
