Liverpool John Lennon Airport see half-year passenger increase

Over 2.3 million passengers have passed through Liverpool John Lennon Airport in the first half of 2016.

Figures released today have shown a 15 per cent increase on the same period last year while over 11% more travellers flying from the city in June.

With over 300,000 extra passengers passing through the Speke terminal, it is one of the fastest-growing airports in the UK with passenger numbers rising for a 17th consecutive month in comparison to the same period the year before.

Six new services have launched from Liverpool this year, including Blue Air’s route to Romanian city Cluj and Spanish airline Vueling flying to Barcelona three times per week.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said: “2016 is set to be the Airport’s best year in terms of passenger numbers since 2011.

“This year has seen more new operators, more new destinations and the completion of a variety of terminal developments that have improved the customer experience, helping to give passengers from across the North West and North Wales more of what they want from their local airport.”
