Manchester City plotting record-breaking bid for John Stones

Everton are set to receive a £50 million bid from Manchester City as they attempt to land John Stones.

Stones has intimated his desire to leave Goodison Park as the Blues face a second summer of interest in the defender from one of their Premier League peers.

Chelsea previously attempted to force Everton’s hand on Stones but failed to tempt the 21-year-old away on three successive attempts at the beginning of last season.

City, however, are intent on succeeding where their predecessors failed as Pep Guardiola eyes defensive reinforcements to start his reign at the Etihad Stadium.

A record-breaking offer which will see Stones become the most expensive defender in world football is set to be tabled to Everton officials but a renewed approach by Chelsea is anticipated in the coming weeks.

Manchester United are also set to battle their cross-city rivals after new manager Jose Mourinho previously targeted Stones during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.
