A Litherland schoolboy’s appeal for life-saving cancer treatment has been boosted by a £25,000 donation from Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Charlie Fearns is aiming to raise £100,000 to fund care for the 10-year-old in the United States after he was diagnosed with leukaemia for a third time.
And Charlie’s mum Sophie has revealed on Friday that former Anfield hero Gerrard has helped the ‘Charlie’s Chance’ iniative as it surpassed its original target.
She said: “Steven Gerrard has just donated an incredible £25k so we now stand at a total of £127,985.
“No words can describe how we are feeling.”
Charlie aims to undergo an experimental treatment in Seattle which is currently not available in the UK that uses a patient’s immune system to fight the cancer.
Mum Sophie added: “Incredibly humbled [this] would not happen in any other city.
“Raising a glass tonight to every person who has contributed.”
