Liverpool FC misfit on verge of securing long-awaited departure

Martin Skrtel’s Liverpool career looks set to end with a imminent move to Fenerbahce.

Uncertainty has clouded the Slovakian defender’s future at Anfield after failing to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans last season and is now set to finalise a long-awaited move to Turkey.

Fenerbahce saw a £5.5 million offer for Skrtel accepted by the Reds earlier this month but interest from Inter Milan threatened to jeopardise the 31-year-old’s switch.

But club president Aziz Yildirim has now confirmed that the deals for Skrtel and Paris Saint-Germain full-back Gregory van der Wiel are both nearing completion.

“The van der Wiel and Skrtel transfers are almost done”, Yildirim told AMK Spor.

Skrtel is currently among Anfield’s longest-serving players after joining from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
