Virgil van Dijk has provided an update over his long-term Liverpool future.
Van Dijk is one of three established first-team figures who is set to be out of contract next summer alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.
As things stand, the trio will be free to enter into negotiations with other clubs about potential free transfers away from Anfield at the beginning of January.
But Van Dijk revealed after Sunday’s Premier League over Chelsea that talks are now underway over potentially extending his stay with Arne Slot’s side.
He said: “I can say obviously discussions are ongoing, but I don’t know, we will see what happens in the future.
“My very full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win games that are ahead of me and nothing else. What the future will bring I have no idea at the moment.
“I can only tell you that discussions have been started up and we will see.”
At 33, Van Dijk is one of the elder statesmen in the Reds’ squad but believes he has the potential to keep performing at the highest level for years to come.
“I feel very good, physically, mentally and I am having fun,” he added.
“What the future brings I have no idea at the moment, but like I said in my previous answer, discussions are ongoing with the right people.
“When it’s time to make a decision or whatever, I think you guys (the media) will know it as well.
“But now my full commitment and focus is on Liverpool and to be successful this season. So we will see.”
The Netherlands international also hailed Curtis Jones’ match-winning display against the west Londoners after having a hand in both his side’s goals.
“I think it’s been an amazing couple of weeks for him on a personal level,” said Van Dijk.
“Of course becoming a dad for the first time and I am happy everything went well there, that is the most important thing.
“He was man of the match today, scoring the winner which is always important but apart from that he was outstanding in the defensive work he did.
“He kept Cole Palmer very quiet and I think that is what pleased me the most.”
