Everton are in talks with Newcastle over a deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin has been a long-term target for Eddie Howe’s side and is approaching the final 12 months of his existing contract at Goodison Park.

The Magpies’ interest in the striker dates back to 2022 and could see him link up with former Blues forward Anthony Gordon, who joined them last year.

Discussions have taken place between Everton and Calvert-Lewin over a potential extension to his current deal but are set to be temporarily shelved.

If the one-time England international moves to St James’ Park, teenage winger Yankuba Minteh could be offered as a makeweight in the transfer.

Calvert-Lewin has endured an injury-plagued spell in recent years and also endured a 22-game scoreless run which ended in April’s draw with Newcastle.

Everton are in separate talks with Aston Villa over the sale of forward Lewis Dobbin, having signed Tim Iroegbunam from the Midlanders on Saturday.

Meanwhile prospective new owners The Friedkin Group have provided fresh capital after entering into an exclusivity agreement with Farhad Moshiri.

The Americans have repaid a combined £158 million loan to MSP Sports Capital, Andy Bell and George Downing pledged to Bramley-Moore Dock.

In addition to satisfying that outstanding debt, the group have also supplied funds towards Everton’s short-term running costs and stadium completion.
