Liverpool confirm Arne Slot’s appointment

Liverpool have confirmed Arne Slot’s appointment as their new head coach.

Slot will begin work as Jurgen Klopp’s successor on June 1, subject to work permit clearance, after signing a three-year contract to take the Anfield helm.

The 45-year-old becomes the Reds’ 21st permanent managerial hire as he replaces Klopp and the first Dutchman to lead in the club’s 132-year history.

His predecessor had already made reference to Monday’s confirmed arrival during his send-off after Sunday’s final game of the season against Wolves.

Slot ended a three-year spell with Feyenoord, where he won an Eredivisie title, to move to Merseyside after both clubs agreed a compensation package.

A deal worth around £7.7 million was brokered in late April after the former midfielder had emerged as Liverpool’s preferred post-Klopp candidate.

Although Slot will not formally take charge until the start of next month, he has already begun preparations by bringing forward pre-season training by a week.

Severat Feyenoord lieutenants are also expected to join the ranks in assistant Sipke Hulshoff, head of performance Ruben Peeters and analyst Etienne Reijnen.

Speaking after the season’s final game, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk haas already pledged to help Slot settle into his new role as the cluib’s figurehead.

He said: “I am very curious and have a lot of questions all the time.

“We will see, the Premier League and Liverpool is obviously a different ball game but we are here for him, I’ll be here for him whatever he needs.

“It is all about sticking together and give him the chance of showing what he is capable of with the other guys who will come in.

“He probably knows already but everyone knows our expectations are always huge and it is about managing that in the right way and getting the maximum out of all of our players.”
