World-renowned artists added to Brazilica 2016 programme

Liverpool will welcome two of Brazil’s most established artists to the city as part of Brazilica 2016.

An eclectic celebration of Brazilian music, dance, culture and food, Brazilica regularly draws in crowds in excess of 60,000 and plans are already apace for the ninth edition of one of the flagship events in Liverpool’s festival calendar.

This year, as well as the Brazilian Film Festival, Carnival Queen Competition, Samba Bands and the hugely popular Carnival Parade, festival goers will also get the chance to see the work of two outstanding Brazilian artists.

Multi-award winning wildlife photographer Joao Marcos Rosa is scheduled to showcase his internationally renowned work in an exhibition at The Galleries at St George’s Hall from 12-18 July.

Rosa specialises in illustrating wildlife and conservation issues in Brazilian ecosystems and his work has been published in magazines such as GEO and BBC Wildlife. The exhibition will focus on some of the most colourful and diverse species in the Brazilian rainforest.

Meanwhile, the old bath site on Lodge Lane will serve as the backdrop for a brand new piece of original street art by Ananda Nahu, who intends to explore the relationship between mankind and contemporary society.

Brazilica director, Maeve Morris, expressed her delight at confirming the pair for the summer extravaganza.

She said: “It’s so exciting to have these two amazing artists coming to Liverpool, working in very different fields. We owe a huge thank you to Alicia from Braziliarty for helping to make it all happen and look forward to future collaborations.”

The festival runs from 15-17 July.
