Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on loan.

Carvalho’s first 12 months at Anfield finished on a sour note after he fell out of favour and was restricted to just 21 appearances from all competitions.

The Portugal under-21 international, signed on a free transfer from Fulham, sealed a season-long move to the Bundesliga giants on Friday afternoon.

Leipzig’s initial attempts to land Carvalho saw a bid understood to be worth in the region of £10 million rebuffed by Jurgen Klopp’s side last month.

But the Reds are believed to be intent on developing the 20-year-old as a long-term prospect at the club despite his limited game time last season.

“For me, as a young player, it’s a big step from England to move to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig,” said Carvalho.

“I’m joining a team that plays very well and has been very successful in recent years.

“Now I want to help build on that and I’m really looking forward to this new challenge.

“My aim is to play as much as possible – in the league, in the cup and above all in the UEFA Champions League.

“RB Leipzig stands for giving young players exactly this opportunity to and that’s why the club is perfect for me to be able to develop further.”
