Thiago Alcantara insists Liverpool are focusing directly on a top-four target.
Saturday’s stalemate with Chelsea saw Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to make up ground in their battle to secure a Champions League qualification place.
The Reds currently sit 10 points adrift of the Premier League’s final spot for Europe’s elite club competition with 29 points from their opening 19 games.
But Thiago has revealed that the FA Cup holders remain fixated on the immediate task ahead of their fourth round trip to high-flying Brighton.
He said: “We are in the reality to go game-by-game and get points to help us to be as high as possible.
“Our aim is the next game – not to be in the top four or the Europa League, just the next game.
“We are in a position for the Champions League and FA Cup. We are not in the position we wanted in the Premier League but still we are there and that’s good.”
The Spain international also echoed Klopp’s belief that Liverpool’s quadruple hunt in the previous campaign has led to a potential psychological hangover.
“It is not just about physical stuff,” added Thiago.
“It is something psychological because we were so close to winning everything and we just touched it.
“But sadly it went away.”
