Klopp makes Old Trafford protest plea

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool should be awarded maximum points if their game at Manchester United is derailed by fan protests.

Disenfranchised supporters are set to air their grievances towards the Old Trafford hierarchy ahead of Monday night’s Premier League showdown.

A similar demonstration saw the Reds’ trip in last year postponed as several hundred United fans stormed the stadium and blockaded its entrances.

The rescheduled fixture took place a fortnight later but a repeat would lead to fixture congestion in an already condensed schedule ahead of the World Cup.

Klopp has argued that a better alternative than rearranging the game would be to give his side the points if the match suffers a similar fate to May 2021.

He said: “I really hope it will not happen but if it happens, I think we should get the points because have nothing to do with the situation.

“If that happens and the supporters want the game to not happen, we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it in somewhere in an incredible busy, busy thing.

“I don’t think and I really hope this will not happen. I have no idea what could happen, I don’t think about it.

“People tell us we are fine [to play] so we go there, we play the game hopefully and go home.

“But if (the game is postponed) I really think in a situation like this, always the other team should get the points because they have nothing to do with it.”
