James Milner admits Liverpool’s victory parade helped convince him to sign a new deal.
Milner penned a 12-month extension on Monday, committing himself to eight years at Anfield and two decades as a professional at Premier League level.
But the veteran midfielder revealed that the scenes which greeted the Reds upon their return from the Champions League final were an added motivation.
An estimated half a million people lined the city’s streets to celebrate Jurgen Klopp’s side finishing a mammoth campaign with a domestic cup double.
“Last season was extraordinary, even though it didn’t have the ending we hoped it would,” said Milner.
“But I think that will only make us all even hungrier for more success, to be honest.
“I felt that after the parade and that played a part in my decision-making also. It’s a unique club.
“Now this is signed, I’m already looking forward to getting back with everyone, refocusing and going again.
“It’s a brilliant dressing room to be part of.”
