Incorporating Christmas into your wedding

Christmas is a magical time of the year, with twinkling lights adorning trees and people spreading joy throughout the festive season. If Christmas is a holiday that you both love to celebrate as a couple, a winter wedding could be for you. What better way to celebrate your union than by combining it with your favourite holiday? Keeping the theme centred around a winter wonderland will enable you to add hints of Christmas without going overboard.

If you’ve decided that a winter wedding is for you, read on for Christmas wedding inspiration.

Festive colour schemes

Using colours that are often associated with Christmas is a subtle way of incorporating the season into your wedding theme. White and green with splashes of red is one of the more obvious festive colour palettes to use. However, there are many colour combinations that subtly hint to Christmas: use white, ivory and taupe for a wintery rustic feel; red, burgundy, and crimson to combine winter berry tones; and white with subtle hints of silver and green for a winter wonderland effect.

The venue

With the weather in the UK being unpredictable in winter, choosing a venue that has the wow factor inside is important. Look for venues that offer cosiness, through large fires and soft lighting. Venues that can accommodate a large, beautifully decorated Christmas tree will offer excellent photo opportunities too.

Wedding attire

Winter weddings lend themselves perfectly to warmer textures. For a bridal dress, a floor-length gown with long sleeves complemented with a faux-fur jacket will look elegant and keep you warm too. Drop earrings in either crystal or pearl will finish the outfit nicely. If your budget is a little on the lower side, look out for seasonal discounts on jewellery. Footwear also needs to be considered. You might love a pair of white sandals but will they be practical? Why not opt for two pairs of shoes; one to wear inside and one to slip on for outdoor photos.

For a groom, a herringbone suit is warm and durable – or, for something a little bolder, why not opt for a luxurious velvet?

Seasonal flowers and foliage

Seasonal blooms are fewer in winter but that doesn’t prevent you from having a spectacular wedding bouquet. Many flowers are imported and available all year round so, if you’ve been dreaming of a rose bouquet, it is possible. However, if you’re looking for flowers that are sustainable and home-grown in the UK, opt for the likes of hellebores, anemones, narcissi, and catkins. Using green foliage, pinecones, and holly for table centrepieces, accentuated with candles, will bring the winter wonderland theme together.

It’s your big day so, if you love Christmas, feel free to incorporate it as subtly or fully as you like! However you choose to design your wedding, be sure to enjoy the magic of the day.
