Frank De Boer would be the perfect Everton manager for Everton to bring the best out of John Stones.
Barcelona legend De Boer won four titles in six years at former team Ajax, and is a free agent after leaving leaving the historic Eredevise club at the end of the season.
The 46-year-old Dutchman has been hotly tipped to take over the reins from former Blues boss Roberto Martinez this summer, but is so far yet to enter discussions with the club’s hierarchy over a move.
And brother Ronald de Boer has added further fuel to the fire by suggesting that the defensive expert would get the best out of Stones, who has endured a troublesome campaign for club and country.
He said: “My brother never kicked the ball in the stands: never did it in his life, always trying to have a solution.
“Stones is the same and that is why he sometimes makes mistakes but that is also why people like him. Frank can help him to get better, with his 112 caps and so many trophies.
“If I see what [Frank] did also already with the youngsters like Kenny Tete an Riedewald at 19 years old, and Dijks, Veltman, all four of them are full internationals.
“Frank would never choose a player who’s just defending, he would like to have a guy like Stones. Frank gets crazy if somebody kicks the ball out.”
Stones is renowned for his technical ability, but has suffered from a series of high-profile errors.
De Boer, however, remains an admirer of the player’s talent, hinting that the ex-Barnsley defender’s skill set is currently well suited to an expansive European style.
“He has to realise when to take risks or not, but you must never take away his qualities,” he added.
“People like him because of what he did. If he now changes his game, he wouldn’t be that special, because he can defend, but what makes him so exciting is that he can play from the back.
“[Pep] Guardiola would probably love him, a player like that, who also never kicks a ball into the stands. They want players like that.
“We like that [elsewhere in Europe]. But I think it will come, they will appreciate him [in England]. Maybe he’ll play [for England], have a great European Championship. He has great potential.”
