Liverpool are pressing ahead in their efforts to sign Ben Chilwell after sewing up the capture of Loris Karius.
Mainz goalkeeper Karius’ £4.7 million move to Anfield will be announced in the coming days and is set to be a renewed pursuit of the Leicester City left-back.
Chilwell has been the subject of two unsuccessful bids from Arsenal in the past 12 months but Jurgen Klopp is planning to move for the defender, one of his top targets this summer, in the next fortnight.
Klopp was alerted to the 19-year-old’s potential by his former Borussia Dortmund ally and Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner, who observed the player at close quarters during a loan spell with the Championship club earlier this season.
Leicester have offered Chilwell an improved contract but the newly-crowned Premier League champions are braced for his potential departure amid interest from the Reds.
