Carlo Ancelotti hopes to remain Everton manager when they move to a new stadium.
Liverpool City Council granted the Blues planning permission to build a proposed 52,888-capacity arena at Bramley-Moore Dock on Tuesday.
Work on the waterfront site could start in spring if ratified by the government and is currently forecast to open in time for the start of the 2024/25 season.
Ancelotti’s current deal will expire that summer but the three-time Champions League-winning coach is happy to extend his stay on Merseyside beyond that.
He said: “I would like to be there when the new stadium is opened. It will be a good achievement for me.
“To finish the contract here in 2024 means that you did a good job and when you do a good job the contract will not be stopped in 2024. It will continue.
“The time I spent here [so far] is one year and I have felt really good so I would like to stay as long as possible.”
News of the Bramley-Moore ruling came in a momentous few days for Everton after ending their Merseyside derby hoodoo by defeating Liverpool at Anfield.
Ancelotti admits that he has been unable to speak with jubilant supporters on his travels due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions around social distancing.
However the Italian is under no illusions of the significance of him becoming the club’s first manager to record a victory away to their local rivals in 22 years.
“They didn’t talk to me, just did this [gives a thumbs up] because unfortunately we don’t have the possibility to talk at the moment,” added Ancelotti.
“I went outside only once [since the Liverpool game] biking but I bike really fast so it is difficult for them to catch me!”
