Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth ship will return to Liverpool this summer as part of the company’s centenary celebrations.
The news comes after the “Three Queens One Magnificent City” event was crowned Major Event of the Year at this week’s Liverpool Tourism Awards.
The liner, the youngest member of the fleet, will sail up the Mersey again on Saturday, July 2 to celebrate the centenary of the Cunard Building.
She is expected to greet the Three Graces at around 7am on July 2, before she will take her place at the Liverpool Cruise Terminal where she will remain for the rest of the day.
The ship will play host to a number of events during the day including a lunch in aid of the Prince’s Trust, and a reunion of the Liverpool Pilots who were vital to the success of the Three Queens event last year.
There will also be a ticket-only Service of Thanksgiving for the Cunard Building and the part it has played in the city for the last century at St Nicholas Church.
And in the evening the Queen Elizabeth will hold a Civic Dinner on board in the Verandah Restaurant.
The day’s call will end with a fireworks display arranged and paid for by Cunard to celebrate the centenary of the Cunard Building and the ship’s call.
Timings for this, together with details of other activity taking place on Pier Head, will follow nearer the time.
