Marcel Brands is set to extend his stay as Everton’s director of football.
Brands arrived as Steve Walsh’s replacement in 2018 but uncertainty lingered over his future with the Blues ahead of his existing contract expiring in May.
The Dutchman’s potential departure from Goodison Park put several European clubs on high alert with Manchester United reportedly preparing to swoop.
However Brands is now on the verge of signing a new deal to remain on Merseyside, where he has overseen a largely successful transfer strategy.
Carlo Ancelotti has hailed the 58-year-old’s decision to continue with Everton and believes a successful negotiation will provide further stability for the club.
He said: “For what I know there is work in progress.
“I think that no doubt, he is going to stay and sign a new contact.
“We are working well, we have a good relationship with him and I will be really pleased he if can sign a new contract.
“But from what I know there is work in progress.”
“It is important I think so, to give stability to the club this is the way that you have to follow, to try to work together to improve the relationship between us, between the clubs, and so I think the step is a good step,” added Ancelotti.
“It will be good for him to stay and to work and to try to improve the squad and the team.
“But we all have the same idea, the board has the same idea and soon I think he is going to sign a new contract.”
