The owners of the land that Everton could build their waterfront stadium on are ‘not in a position to say anything at the moment’.
According to reports in the Liverpool Echo the club is understood to be talking with Port of Liverpool owners, Peel, about the plans for the waterfront stadium.
When approached by the Echo, Peel director Lindsey Ashworth would not comment.
She said: “There is nothing to say, there has been a lot of speculation.
“I’m not in a position to say anything at the moment.”
The news follows the announcement on Monday that the council and Everton had abandoned plans for a stadium at Walton Hall Park.
On Tuesday Joe Anderson said he is confident the finances are in place for the new stadium to go ahead and that it will be done in three years.
The Mayor of Liverpool has spoken out on the new plans stating that the latest sites will not require as much planning permission as they do not involve wider regeneration plans.
Mayor Anderson said: “The difference is that the club don’t need subsidy in that way to help them.”
Anderson also believes that the plans could boost the city’s bid to host the commonwealth games.
