Everton handed triple Merseyside derby boost

Everton have been handed a triple fitness boost ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Allan, Seamus Coleman and Andre Gomes are all set to be in contention for the Blues’ 237th meeting with local rivals Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime.

The trio all picked up injuries heading into the recent international break but Carlo Ancelotti now expects to call on them for the Goodison Park showdown.

Yerry Mina will be assessed separately in the run-up to the clash after sitting out Colombia’s 2-2 draw with Chile on Tuesday with discomfort in his thigh.

Defensive duo Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite remain Everton’s sole long-term injury concerns but Jean-Philippe Gbamin could return next month.

“Andre Gomes is available for Saturday, no problem,” said Ancelotti.

“Allan started to train with the team this week. If nothing happens in the next few days he will be available to play against Liverpool.

“I think Seamus is going to be good, too, because he started to train with us on Monday.

“Holgate and Branthwaite are working individually. Branthwaite is closer [to returning]. They have no problems [in their recovery] but we have to wait a little bit.

“Gbamin is working individually, he is not here [at Finch Farm] yet.

“I think he is going to be here in 15 days and start to work apart from the team in the beginning, and then with the team.

“At the end of the November, I think he can be fit to play.”

Mina’s potential starting omission could open the door for Ben Godfrey to make his Everton debut following a deadline day move from Norwich City.

And Ancelotti insists he has no concerns about the handing the new centre-back a baptism of fire against the Premier League champions if necessary.

He added: “Godfrey is a a really talented player.

“He is really fast, very quick. He has different characteristics from the centre-backs we have in this moment.

“He is a complete defender, fast, good with his head and good with the ball. He has all the quality to be a really good centre-back.

“He has experience in the Premier League. He was really happy to come here.

“I think he will be a good signing, not only for the present because I think he is ready to play in the Premier League, but also for the future of the Club.

“If he is fit, he is going to be in competition with the others [for the game against Liverpool].”
