Everton FC set to battle rivals Liverpool FC for Ajax forward

The red and blue halves of Merseyside are set to clash in their pursuit of Ajax striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer.

Polish international Milik has been in fantastic form for the Eredivise runners-up this season, with 22 goals in 2015-16, following his permanent move from Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2015.

Both Liverpool and Everton are reported to be keen on signing the powerful frontman as they seek to increase their goal returns for next season.

As an interesting subplot to the transfer saga, Everton could gain an advantage in the race Milik, if they appoint Frank De Boer as their new manager, with the Dutchman having managed him at Ajax this season.

Despite his impressive goalscoring exploits, Milik is still relatively new to the European scene and deal could be struck for in the region of £10m, however both clubs will look to sell before they buy.

Liverpool are likely to sell forward Christian Benteke this summer, following an underwhelming debut campaign, and his Belgian compatriot Romelu Lukaku has also been linked with an exit from Goodison Park.
