Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman is in hospital with a ‘chest complaint’.
Koeman spent 18 months in the Goodison Park hot seat before leaving in October 2017 and took charge of Holland’s national team the following year.
He was taken to a hospital by ambulance and underwent a cardiac catheterisation, which involves placing thin tube into a vein or artery.
His wife Bartina told De Telegraaf newspaper that the 57-year-old coach underwent the procedure on Sunday after feeling unwell at home.
She said: “The speed with which he was taken to the hospital and the quick intervention of the doctors allowed his condition to be stabilised.”
Koeman, who rose to prominence as a player at Barcelona, is already said to be in a stable condition and is expected to return home in the next 24 hours.
The Dutch football association confirmed his condition in a statement.
“Ronald Koeman was hospitalised on Sunday evening after chest complaints,” they said.
“He will return home tomorrow. We wish Ronald a lot of strength and improvement.”
Everton publicly sent well wishes to their former boss, who secured Europa League qualification during his first season in the helm, on social media.
“Everyone at EFC would like to wish former boss Ronald Koeman a speedy recovery”, the club’s official account tweeted.
