David Moyes is in line for a return to Everton as Marco Silva faces the sack.
Silva’s Goodison Park tenure is firmly on the brink in the aftermath of Wednesday’s 5-2 demolition by Liverpool in the 234th Merseyside derby.
The Blues slipped back into the Premier League’s relegation zone with their Anfield reversal, which was strewn with shambolic defensive mistakes.
Moyes remains the current favourite to succeed Silva could draft in former Goodison favourite Tim Cahill as his assistant manager if appointed.
Following the Liverpool defeat, the former Watford and Hull City boss faced renewed questions about whether he feared being sacked by Everton.
“I am not the right person to talk to you about the situation, I cannot answer to you,” said Silva.
“Since I joined the club and until the last day I am here I will always be 100% professional, giving my best every single day.
“I understand why the questions are coming. If we are winning all the games, you are not asking them.
“It is not for me to take those questions. I don’t like to talk after every single match about my future.”
