Origi eyeing ‘difficult’ Liverpool decision

Divock Origi hopes to make it ‘difficult as possible’ for Jurgen Klopp to omit him.

Origi led the line alongside Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Liverpool’s Champions League group stage win over Genk on Tuesday.

The Belgian has often found himself margalised against Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the Reds’ line-up despite scoring a number of crucial goals.

However Origi admits that he thrives on the current competition for places at Anfield and has set his sights on forcing Klopp into a selection headache.

He said: “Personally I am just going game by game in terms of assessing.

“I am just progressing, feeling stronger game by game and trying to help the team more and more.

“I am finding my ways, finding the routines, how the guys play and I think you can tell on the pitch as well I am growing, trying to be more efficient in the last quarter which is coming slowly but steadily.

“I always see it as being the best I can be and I think the fact we have so much quality, I loved it because that is what helped us win the Champions League.

“That is going to help us be successful and if everyone is at their best, then the choice is nothing new, it is on the coach and we all try to make the choice as difficult as possible for the coach.”

Goals from Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum allowed Liverpool to ascend to the summit of Group E with the victory over his former club.

It also provided a perfect tee-up ahead of Sunday’s highly-anticipated clash with Manchester City – something which Origi believes will stand them in good stead.

“It is good to keep on going, keep the flow going,” added the striker.

“I think this weekend is going to be a big, big game. We have already played a couple of times against each other so we are all looking forward to it.”
