Dejan Lovren has revealed how Jurgen Klopp changed Liverpool’s fortunes.
Klopp marked the four-year anniversary of his appointment in the Anfield hot seat earlier this month and has already delivered Champions League glory.
Lovren is one of only a handful of Reds players present for the German’s arrival who has remained at the club throughout his entire tenure.
And the Croatia international identified a handful of small off-the-field instructions which help foster a greater team spirit within the club’s ranks.
“We started to believe when he [Klopp] said: ‘From doubters to believers’,” said Lovren.
“He changed things in the club, from small details like saying good morning to everyone, to cleaning your table.
“I think some part of these details are missing in some clubs. We are, I think, raised at my age that when you see an older person you will say, ‘Good morning’.
“It is about respect. When you have this outside of the pitch you will feel it also on the pitch. It is simple things. It is about the food as well.
“He brought in people who are the best in these positions [head of nutrition, Mona Nemmer, from Bayern Munich in 2016], and he knows what he is doing.”
Lovren featured in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Genk on Wednesday in a Champions League group which remains delicately poised at its midway point.
The Belgian outfit travel to Merseyside for the return fixture in a fortnight’s time before Klopp’s side face off against Napoli and Salzburg again.
With the Serie A and Austrian Bundesliga teams refusing to let up in their qualification bids, Lovren is wary of the European champions’ own prospects.
He added: “When you look back we are not the best away team in the Champions League I don’t like to say that but it’s the reality.
“We needed this win, especially because it is quite tight in the group at the moment and we are still have to play Salzburg away.
“It will still be tough but let’s keep this quality.”
