David Moyes is reportedly open to a surprise return as Everton manager.
Odds on the Scot succeeding Marco Silva have shortened in the wake of the Blues’ fourth straight Premier League defeat against Burnley last weekend.
Silva remains hopeful of reviving his Goodison Park tenure following several meetings with the club’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri in recent weeks.
But with pressure mounting on the ex-Watford boss, a number of successors have been touted ahead of Everton’s game with West Ham on October 19.
Among them is Moyes, who previously occupied the Goodison hot seat between 2002 and 2013 before leaving for a short-lived spell at Manchester United.
The 56-year-old went on to have similarly unsuccessful stints in charge of Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham, where he lasted just six months in 2018.
However the Daily Mirror understand that he has indicated that the prospect of rejoining his former employers is not one which would be dismissed out of hand.
It is also claimed that Moyes is keen on a Premier League return and has turned down a number of approaches from the Championship and League One recently.
Silva is expected to become the latest top-flight managerial casualty after Newcastle’s win over United pushed Everton into the relegation zone.
Former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, currently Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, is also on the bookmakers’ shortlist to succeed the Portuguese.
