Jurgen Klopp has dismissed claims he could quit Liverpool because of the weather.
Anfield chiefs are keen to offer Klopp a new long-term contract beyond the expiry of his current deal with the reigning European champions in summer 2022.
The German coach’s relaxed approach to his future has seen talks put on hold for the foreseeable but comments by his agent sparked fresh doubt over a renewal.
Marc Kosicke claimed in an interview with an outlet in Klopp’s homeland that the British weather could hold sway on the Reds manager’s eventual decision.
Kosicke later clarified that his comments were a joke made by a friend rather than a reflection on the current state of play over the 52-year-old’s future.
Ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League opener with Napoli on Monday, Klopp confirmed that his agent’s initial claims had been taken out of context.
“He wanted to make a joke so I have to be serious! It was German humour, clearly nobody got it,” said Klopp.
“The weather was never a reason for me to not choose work. I came in October [2015] and you could sing a song to not move then!
“When I speak about the weather it’s about the wind which has an effect on football, but that’s not allowed either!
“There’s nothing in that story.”
Klopp also revealed that Divock Origi will spend up to a fortnight on the sidelines for Liverpool with a twisted ankle picked up in the win over Newcastle.
“The update on Div is that it is not too serious,” Klopp told the club’s official website.
“We expect him [to be out for] between one and two weeks, but it depends a little bit on when he can deal with the pain.
“It is nothing really; it’s a feeling, but it should be fine.”
