Yerry Mina has been charged by the Football Association for alleged betting breaches.
The Everton defender was hit with the sanction by English football’s governing body after appearing in an advert for a gaming company in his native Colombia.
Mina has until 6pm on Friday to answer the charge, which will be examined by an independent regulatory commission that will decide on potential sanctions.
News of the 24-year-old’s disciplinary action comes a week after ex-Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was fined £75,000 for breaching betting regulations.
The former England international also received a six-week ban from football, of which four weeks were suspended, which the FA are now preparing to appeal.
Wembley chiefs are set to argue that Sturridge’s ban should be extended to a minimum of six months to reflect the severity of the offence.
“Yerry Mina has been charged with misconduct in relation to The FA’s betting rules,” read an FA statement.
“It is alleged the defender breached FA Rule E8 (3) by participating in an advertisement for betting activity which he is prohibited from engaging in.”
Mina joined Everton last summer in a £28 million move from Barcelona but endured a series of injury problems during his debut season on Merseyside.
