A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of an infant in Speke.
Police were informed by the ambulance service of concerns for a child who had been taken to hospital from an address in Belsford Way with a head injury.
The one-year-old boy later passed away on Friday afternoon and his family are currently being supported by specialist officers.
Following enquiries, a 23-year-old man from Winsford in Cheshire has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a police station for questioning.
A Home Office post mortem is due to take place on Sunday and the family have asked that their privacy is respected at this time.
